What is Daytran?

Daytrana is a prescription medicine used to treatHyperactive disorder and attention deficit(ADHD) in people from 6 to 17 years old. Daytrana is a central nervous system (brain) stimulant medication. Daytrana can help you have a better attention span and less impulsive and hyperactive behavior. Daytrana is a patch that is applied to the skin on the hip. Daytrana is used as part of a total ADHD treatment program, which may also include counseling or other treatments.

It is not known if Daytrana is safe and effective in children under 6 years of age.

What is the most important information I should know about Daytrana?

Only use Daytrana on your skin

Daytrana is a federally controlled substance (CII) because it can be abused or addictive. Store the Daytrana in a safe place to protect it from theft. Selling or giving away Daytrana may harm others and is illegal.

Tell your doctor if you have ever abused or been dependent on alcohol, prescription drugs, or street drugs.

Daytrana is a central nervous system (brain) stimulant medication. Serious side effects have been reported with Daytrana or other stimulant medications, including:

Who shouldn't use Daytrana?

Do not use Daytrana if you:

are very anxious, tense, or agitated
have glaucoma
has tics (repeated movements or sounds that cannot be controlled)
have Tourette's syndrome or a family history of this syndrome
are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medicine in the last 2 weeks. Do not take an MAOI medicine for at least 2 weeks before using Daytrana. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure if any of your medicines are MAOIs.
you are allergic to methylphenidate or any of the other ingredients of Daytrana. To see "What are the ingredients in Daytrana?" for a complete list of ingredients.

Talk to your doctor before taking this medication if you have any of these conditions.

What should I tell my doctor before using Daytrana?

Before you start using Daytrana, tell your doctor if:

have heart problems, heart defects, high blood pressure
have mental problems, such as psychosis, mania, bipolar disorder, or depression
have seizures or have had an abnormal brain wave test (EEG)
have circulation problems in your fingers or toes
have skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, or have skin reactions to soaps, lotions, makeup, or adhesives (glues)
are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known whether Daytrana will harm an unborn baby.
- There is a pregnancy registry for women exposed to ADHD medications, including Daytrana, during pregnancy. The purpose of the registry is to collect health information from women exposed to Daytrana and their babies. If you or your daughter become pregnant while taking Daytrana, talk to your doctor about registering with the National Pregnancy Registry for ADHD Medications at 1-866-961-2388 or visit https://womensmentalhealth.org/adhd-medications /.
are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Daytrana passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor about the best way to feed your baby while taking Daytrana.
history of vitiligo and/or family history of vitiligo

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Daytrana and some other medicines can affect each other and cause serious side effects.

In particular, tell your doctor if you take:

a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) drug See "Who should not take Daytrana?"
medications to treat depression
medications to treat seizures
a blood pressure medicine
a blood-thinning medication
cold or allergy medicines that contain decongestants

Know the medicines you take. Keep a list of them to show your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start taking any new medicine while you are using Daytrana without first talking to your doctor.

How should I use Daytrana?

Read the Patient Instructions for Use that came with your Daytrana for information on the correct way to use Daytrana.
Use Daytrana exactly as your doctor tells you.
Your doctor may change your dose if necessary.
Apply Daytrana to the hip 2 hours before it takes effect.
Do not use Daytrana for more than 9 hours a day.
Apply Daytrana to a different hip each day.
Do not cut Daytrana patches.
Parents or caregivers should apply and remove Daytrana for their child if the child is not responsible enough to do so.
Your doctor may stop Daytrana treatment to control your ADHD symptoms.
Your doctor may do some blood tests and check your heart and blood pressure while you are using Daytrana.
If you forget to apply a patch in the morning, you can apply it later in the day. The patch should be removed at the usual time of day to lessen the chance of side effects later in the day.
If you have loss of appetite or trouble sleeping at night, ask your doctor if you can remove the patch earlier in the day.
Contact with water from showering, swimming or bathing may cause the patch to not stick well or fall off. If the label falls off, do not touch the sticky side of the label with your fingers. You can apply a new patch to a different area on the same hip. If you have to replace a patch that has fallen off, the total wearing time of the first and second patches should not exceed 9 hours in 1 day. Do not reapply the same sticker that fell off.
Do not wear the Daytrana patch for more than 9 hours.
If you accidentally apply or use more than 1 patch at a time, you have used too much Daytrana. Remove all patches, wash application sites immediately, and call your doctor.
- Call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away if you have:
  - to vomit
  - agitation
  - shaking
  - confusion or mental changes
  - seeing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  - perspiration
  - redness on your face
  - headache
  - changes in heartbeat

What should I avoid while taking daytrana?

Do not apply any medicine, cream, or lotion to the hip before applying the Daytrana patch. Medicines, creams or lotions can affect the way the patch sticks to the skin and the way the medicine is absorbed by the patch.
Do not use bandages, tape, or other household adhesives (glue) to hold the patch to the skin.
Do not use hair dryers, heating pads, electric blankets, heated water beds, or other sources of heat while wearing a Daytrana patch. Too much medicine can pass into your body and cause serious side effects.
Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or do other dangerous activities until you know how Daytrana affects you.

What are the possible side effects of Daytrana?

Daytrana can cause serious side effects, including:

Seizures. This usually occurs in people with a history of seizures.
Painful and prolonged erections (priapism) have occurred with methylphenidate. If you or your child develop priapism, seek medical help immediately. Due to the potential for lasting damage, priapism should be evaluated immediately by a doctor.
Delayed growth (weight and height). You must monitor your height and weight while using Daytrana.
Loss of skin color (chemical leukoderma). Daytrana may cause persistent loss of skin color where the patch is applied or around the patch application site. Loss of skin color, in some cases, has been reported at sites remote from any application site. Loss of skin color may be permanent even after removing the patch or stopping Daytrana use. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience changes in skin color.
Allergic rash. Stop using Daytrana and see your doctor immediately if you experience swelling or blistering at or around the application site. You may have a skin allergy to Daytrana. People who have a skin allergy to Daytrana may develop an allergy to all medications that contain methylphenidate, including methylphenidate-based medications taken by mouth.
Changes in vision or blurred vision

The most common side effects of Daytrana include:

skin problems where Daytrana is applied (redness, small bumps, itching)
little appetite
nausea
to vomit
stomachache
weightloss
ticks
trouble sleeping
humor changes
dizziness

Tell your doctor if you experience any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.

How should I store Daytrana?

Guarde Daytrana at room temperature, between 68 °F and 77 °F (20 °C and 25 °C).
Do not store Daytrana in the refrigerator or freezer.
Keep Daytrana patches in their sealed package until you are ready to use them.
Use or discard the patches within 2 months of opening the sealed tray or outer package.

Keep Daytrana and all medicines out of the reach of children.
